Armor of God: A Father’s Message to Us ALL
Thursday, July 23, 2020 by Lyvita Brooks

Richard Reese, my father, emailed me this:

God gave us His armor for protection from the schemes and the deceits of the devil. It is the full armor of God, but if you don’t wear all the armor by faith working through love, then the devil will assault you. The full armor of God is invisible; therefore, you wear it by faith. We are not fighting against flesh and blood (people) but against an invisible spiritual force of evil (Eph. 6:12). But we don’t fear our enemy…because God gave us all we need in Christ to stand firm against satan. In this spiritual war, we are subjected to unrelenting attacks in our thoughts, such as worry, fear, doubt, and other concerns. Our part in the battle is to stand firm believing that God is who He says He is, and we are who He says we are…new creations in Christ, full of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

We are never alone. The Holy Spirit lives within us (the born-again), and He can lead us successfully through every battle we face. Because anything He asks us to do, He will provide a way to do it. The key is to learn to cooperate with Him. Remember that Almighty God is on our side! And we are more than a conqueror in Christ who loves us (Rom. 8:31, 37). God’s Word tells us that we have both offensive and defensive equipment to use against the invisible enemy. Our offense is the Word of God; the sword of the Spirit (that is sharper than any two-edged sword >>Heb. 4:12), which allows us to destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Cor. 10:3-5). Our defense is the armor that allows us to stand against the schemes of the devil (Eph. 6:11). Our armor is vitally important to our success in this spiritual battle and we wear it 24/7. Here is the Full Armor of God:

Ephesians 6:11-18 Amplified Bible (AMP)

> 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

> 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.

> 13 Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].

> 14 So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart),

> 15 and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].

> 16 Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

> 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

> 18 With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.

Question to ponder: Do you believe that God will protect you? Do you? If so, when did you last put on the armor of God? When was the last time you used it against the 4 categories of evil known to man? What relationship does Psalm 91 have with the Armor of God? If you are looking for a miracle, a blessing, then time to suit up, stand up, and shout out loud God’s promises.

“I am a child of God who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, for He is my fortress, my refugee, my God in whom I will trust.”

If you have a fear of speaking God’s word out loud then check out Hanging Out With Jesus Podcast. You will find three practice series on the topic. On my website you will find the Ejournal which you can use to help with devotional reading.

Shalom!
