Paul in the Book of First Corinthians reminds the Church of Corinth that they are called to glorify God and not man. This epsiode reminds us of who we are as Christians and in whom we serve.

EPISODE BEGINS
3:57 – Saints, I hope you started a First Corinthians journal. This way all your notes will be located in one place. We have some cool looking ones at lyvitabrooks.com/store, designed with you in mind.
4:18 – Well Saints, I am so excited to be talking to you about this topic: Consider Your Calling. Think about it? What are we as Christians, believers and followers of Christ Jesus called to do? I’m not talking about you as an individual, nope. Let’s start with the basics.
4:42 – First Corinthians 1 lets us know that we are called to be Holy in verses 1-9, called into fellowship in verses 10-25 and called to glorify God verses 26-31.
5:04 – So let’s take a look at that.
First Corinthians 1:26-31 reads, “26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,[a] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being[b] might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him[c] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
8:35 – Now remember we talked about the background of the Church of Corinth in episode 47. The Corinthians were considered a prideful, puffed up, boastful, arrogant group of people. I like the way Paul called them out by saying that, “not many” which allowed their high-mindedness to not become overly offended before he threw out the punch, which was, “so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” Verse 29.
9:14 – God called the saints out in the Church of Corinth, not because of their financial status, the color of their skin, title, celebrity or royalty status. But God called them out inspite of what they were…arrogant, prideful, and boastful people. Y’all do you seriously think you can buy your way into heaven, or be “Christian- goodie two shoes”, or the color of your skin, who you know or studied under, or your birth right, is going to get you into heaven?
9:53 – Some people think that God only saves the “low life’s”, Hey He saves the “high-life minded” with all the in-betweens. Because God sees the people He created as His.
10:11 – There is none wiser than God. It’s hard for a wise person to understand how God changes a sinner into a saint, let allow can forgive a person who has done a horrendous act. They can’t even duplicate what God does even though they try to in movies, books, and science, philosophy and mathematics. All this does is show our weakness as humans, our frailty, and foolishness.
10:51 – Saints when we begin to glorify other men for their knowledge and follow them, instead of Christ. We are robbing God of the glory that He alone deserves. This was a big deal at the Church of Corinth. Remember, “I follow Paul, I follow Apollos” in verse 12, and causing a great deal of problems.
11:17 – This is why verse 26, stood out to me so much, “For consider your calling, brothers: “ Once again, Paul had to remind them of who they are. When you know who you are and from whom you came you begin to reflect it. For example, when I was growing up, my grandmother always told me that I was a Richardson. You see Richardson’s acted a certain way and did certain things and foolishness was not a part of it. Well that took root. Just as I am a Believer in Christ Jesus. Therefore I act a certain way and do certain things that set me apart for those who are not. No, it’s not thinking that I am better than anyone else. It’s simply knowing who I am.
13:47 – Saints we are no better than each other. Being “in Christ” means that you have all that you need, therefore don’t compare yourself to someone else or try to prove that you are better than another person. That’s foolishness and unfruitful. Run your race so that you will win and do it to the best of the ability given you by God. After all, it’s God who made you and has done it all in you to be you.
15:00 -Let me put it this way. Saints of Hanging Out With Jesus Podcast and new listeners to the podcast, hear me loud and clear. In Christ:
16:41 – We are saved! You are saved!
16:52 – Stop doing as the Corinthians, following the standards of the world, identifying with human leaders, pleasing yourself especially with shiny things and people, boasting about other men, and creating division in the church. But instead live up to your holy calling which is to glorify God and His grace.
17:15 – Dig through God’s Words daily to find out more about who He is because it is in Him that you will find you and what His standards are for you to follow and learn of His wisdom. The objective is to know more about God than you know about the world’s standards so you want be so easily persuaded or sidetracked into believing a and living a lie.
CALLED TO ACTION
17:49 – There is a book I read by Rod Dreher called Live Not By Lies, which shares the sudacies of how a government or people can easily trick you into believing a lie. It’s worth the read, if you get the chance.
18:16 – Also if you haven’t taken the 21 Day Challenge, click on the link in the show notes because it will help you focus on who God is and who you are in Him. It’s free and will only take up about 30 minutes of your time for 21 days. Spending time with God is more than worth your time.
18:45 – Saints, I can’t emphasis it enough. You have to know who your God is so that your walk and talk will cause people to flock to Christ. Consider your calling.
19:00 – Let’s pray..
So until we meet again over the airwaves, intentionally and daily, hang out with Jesus.
Shalom!
